Pill Popping Vagina

Let's talk about vaginal progesterone.

After two capsules, I can definitely say I am not a fan of the vag pills (aside from the instructions on the bottle. "Take one capsule twice daily per vagina." HAHAHAHA!!!! I couldn't stop laughing about that last night.).

I will say first I was quite impressed with my vagina's ability to... swallow the pill. Is that too much information? I was kind of nervous about sticking the pill up there because I definitely need an applicator for tampons. I could never figure out the non-applicator kind. But that pill went right up there and I swear I almost heard some lip smacking and a swallow! I don't think I could get it out even if I tried! Which I didn't. Obviously.

But after my initial "'Atta Girl"s, I changed my tune pretty quick.

Are they suppose to leak so much? And be so ... yellow?  And make me feel so gross? And force me to type in italics excessively?

Gross! Not to mention, how much progesterone am I losing with said leakage? Is that even okay? Don't I need that stuff to stay up in there? I am not excited for another 58 times of vagina-popping those suckers. Although I will happily pill pop 58 times over getting cut off with a very unwelcome period in two weeks.

Has it really only been two days since my IUI? Ya'll aren't kidding about the two week wait. This blows. Today I looked at the time at work and when it only said "1:15" I was sure it meant AM and not PM. Time doesn't normally go this slow, right?

After conferring with Belle's post today and taking into consideration your input from my last post, I am going to pee on the 15th instead of the 18th. I mean, I'm pretty sure I'll pee on a pretty regular basis between now and then, but I meant pee on a stick. Of the pregnancy test variety. That will be 11 days post IUI. Otherwise known as one eternity from now.

Distractions are good. Has everyone signed up for DogMom's Pinterest Challenge? I'm so excited about this and it's just the kick in the rear I need to actually make something from Pinterest besides made cake batter truffles and cake batter brownies (oh. my. god.). The first "official" month category is ART. And I've chosen my inspiration piece! And it's amazing!

Image from here, which seems to be a really cool blog that I think I'm going to add to my reader.
I'm in the process of deciding which of my own photos I'm going to use. Stay tuned!

Check back tomorrow or Saturday for a post spurred by Stupid Stork's request for a weird little glimpse into my marriage (and all marriages). I'm going to work something up tonight or tomorrow.

Also, I'm serious about the vagina pill popping. Are those things normal?

  2. Hahahaha! Are yours actually pills? My progesterone was in the form of vaginal suppositories. They kind of looked like they were made of wax and the pharmacist made sure to tell me that melty/leakiness was normal and that the mess that didn't stay in was just the suspension that the progesterone is...um...suspended in, I guess. So, the progesterone was absorbed into my body and then the rest of the suspension just kind of melted out. I wore panty liners because they were pretty messy! And I didn't wear any of my favorite underwear until I was done with them because, yes, the ickyness was yellowish!

Hope your 2WW passes quickly and I can't wait to see your art from the pinterest challenge!

    1. Mine are actually pills! Like someone could easily happen upon these suckers and mistakenly swallow them. It's at least encouraging to know the pharmacist said it would leak anyway.

  3. I've never taken vaginal progesterone, but I know plenty of people who have and, from what I understand, all of that is completely normal. It's leaky, gooey, and gross. So I think you're fine there! Hoping this 2WW flies by, even though I know it won't. Wishing you the best!

    1. Thanks for chiming in! I appreciate knowing this is not in my head / I'm doing something wrong.

  4. They are supposed to be.. DISGUSTING. Listening to Stork: Dis. Gus. Ting. And it only. gets. worse.

I had to do it 3 times a day and so of allll the fertility related advice I can give anyone the BEST is if someone says "vaginal suppository" run out and by some hideous looking grandma panties that you plan on burning afterwards.

It's supposed to come back out in increasingly large clumps - it's normal. It's gravity. It's your vagina's way of vomiting back up the bits it didn't like.

    Did I mention it's disgusting?

    1. It gets WORSE?!?! Oh lordy, I'm in a world of trouble. I tried panty liners yesterday and moved on to the big dogs - regular pads with wings - today. My vagina is not a fan.

  5. good luck with that, and good luck with the 2wwing. I started testing at 12 days post IUI and not sure if it was a good or bad thing, given it's been negative anyhow... I think. but I think it's sort of unavoidable to start peeing on things! We're all so well-trained at this point. here's hoping for a good and not-too-long wait for you.

    1. Sorry to hear about the BFN... what do you mean "you think"? Ambiguity might be good?

  7. HAHAHAHAHA! This was exactly what I needed to find in my reader today :) I was also shocked at how it "swallows" the pills. Sadly, the leakage is par for the course. It is actually why I am choosing to have the husband inject me in the ass every night - I can't handle the leakage any more!

I'm putting together our Pee Stick Pledges right now....

    1. I love the Pee Stick Pledges! I would suggest t-shirts if I weren't still in the fertility closet.

Ass injections vs. vagina leakage... tough call. I think you made the right choice.

  8. "per vagina?" Is it common to have more than one????

    1. HAHAHAHA! Common enough to include in my instructions, at least. :)

  9. I'm so glad I found you. I too have issues with my FSH being all over the place. I found you through scrambled eggs. I'm crossing my fingers for you this cycle...I hope this is the one!!!!

    1. Thanks for coming by! I hate that damn FSH number. I'm getting very good at reading my body though - I can definitely tell when it's high and when it's normal. I could really do without the hot flashes.

  10. You describe the nastiness of progesterone perfectly. I had the suppositories, but I think they are probably equally gross. I always felt like I was leaking and yeah it didn't look the same when it came out as when it went in. YUCK!! I guess the bright side is that they help cook that baby to perfection so we keep on doing it. Best wishes for a successful cycle!!

    1. I'll keep using them forever if it means a healthy baby! Thanks for the well wishes!

  11. Wow, I loooove that photo you posted as your inspiration for the Pinterest challenge. Gor-geous.

And sadly, all those yucky things you describe about the vaginal suppository are normal. I'm going to ask my RE next time if I should be taking the progesterone three times per day instead of two because of how much, um, leakage there is. I feel like I'm losing too much of the medication - which can't be good.

  12. You win the award for the post that made me laugh and shoot ice tea out of my nose! The pharmacist who put that on the bottle has got quite a sense of humor! Thanks for the laugh and yeah, those things are the worst. Ick.

  13. Kinda hate to tell you this and ruin the fun but "per" is a medical term for "by" as in "take 2 pills by mouth" or in this case "by vagina". I like the way you read it better though! And yes, I take the progesterone capsules too and leak like crazy! HATE IT! So nasty. They are quadrupling my dose for my IVF compared to what I took for IUI so I'm REALLY dreading it!
