Late blooming shift? ???

Before I provide a glimpse into my marriage (per Stupid Stork's request), I am having a freak out moment and need your help.

It's about my chart.

I've been temping since CD1. All temps have hovered around 97.2 - 97.5. Including the day before, the day of, and the two days after my IUI on Tuesday. I got a shift today to 98.1.

I'm sure the shift today has something to do with the 200 mg. of progesterone I'm shoving up my vagina twice a day and probably not indicative of ovulating in the past 24 hours. BUT - did I not get a temperature shift for ovulation this time? Does the Ovidrel preclude a shift? Did I not ovulate? Was the IUI a huge waste of time and money and a torturous two week wait?

So I need to know - other charters who have used Ovidrel... is there supposed to be a shift? Should I lower my expectations about this IUI? Does the "temperature shift" credibility fly out the window when fertility meds enter the picture? HELP!

  1. Hmmmm.... I honestly have no idea. I just finished a medicated IUI with an hCG injection and I did get a shift, but I'm not sure if that is the norm. I did a progesterone check 6 days later to confirm ovulation. Can you do that while taking Progesterone? Maybe call your doctor. Hoping your chart's just misleading and that this is the one!

    1. My doctor takes no stock in BBT charts, unfortunately. When I went in for my first consultation I brought the three charts I had with me and he was like "um, no."

The way they've confirmed ovulation for me in the past is through a progesterone check, but 400 mg of that stuff a day is bound to mess with it. UGH!

  2. If your dr is a proponent of charting call the office. Mine wasn't, but I found it invaluable. The go to site for me is "taking charge of your fertility". www.tcoyf.com
You can probably get your answer there.

I hope the IUI wasn't a waste of time. At the very least you nose know you can get response from your ovaries!

    1. I went to tcoyf.com and I'm super overwhelmed! Where should I start to look?

  3. I found this on the TCOYF site: "It is the progesterone that causes a thermal shift, or temperature rise in your body, usually a day or two after you ovulate." I'd always been told that temperatures rise the day after ovulation, so it's interesting to read that it can take two days for the thermal shift to take place. So, I don't think you're completely out of the game. Even if you ovulated a bit later than you thought, the little swimmers could have stuck around for a couple of days. :)

    1. That's a little encouraging... I always thought it had to be the day after ovulation too.

And given my husband's strong swimmers, and the fact that we also had sex the night of the IUI, ovulation probably wasn't more than 48 hours after I had swimmers in there. They can last that long, right?

  4. Maybe wait another day and see if this morning was a fluke? You're right though, the hormone supplements may be messing things around for you. Hang in there! The 2ww is awful :(

    1. Well, it definitely wasn't a fluke. Went up to 98.4 the next day, which is practically fever territory for me! But today it's back down to 97.75. So who knows.

  5. I know that progesterone can make your temp higher, but that's the extent of my knowledge. However, if you shift AFTER you ovulate and you ovulated on the day of the IUI, I think you're still in the window. Sometimes it takes 2 days for mine to make that big jump.

    1. That's encouraging... I ovulate so infrequently it's hard for me to get the "normal" temps down!

  6. You can definitely ovulate a couple of days BEFORE your temp shifts and I believe it's pretty common (it happened to me, and I have friends who say that's how it goes for them EVERY cycle). So it's definitely possible and even likely that you ovulated well before today when your temp went up. I am hopeful that that's what happened!! :)

    1. I hope that's what happened! I'm especially worried that I just never ovulated. The progesterone could have caused that temp shift, easy. :-/

  7. I have no real idea what I'm talking about but I thought the meds messed with the temps enough that as soon as I started a stimulated cycle I stopped temping. So I think, like the others, there may still be some hope?

    1. I hate that freaken' progesterone, now doubly so! First because of the leaky mess it makes me and now because of the temp situation.

  8. Ohh shiz. I am little help with charting anymore - but I can definitely, definitely tell you with absolute certainty that vag progesterone screws up everything to the point where it's almost impossible to tell what's 'normal'. I agree with Emily - it's totally possible to ovulate before your temp goes up.
