Stab to the Heart

If you are pregnant and talking to someone who is struggling with infertility, here is what you should never, ever say:

"If it makes you feel any better, being pregnant is TERRIBLE!"

Because no.  It does not make me feel any better.

Not even a little.

  1. Really, that should be an no-brainer. People are so incredibly ignorant sometimes.

  2. Oh good grief. Did someone really say that to you? Please poke them sharply in the ribs for me, and then once again for yourself. Ugh.

  3. Yes, someone really said that to me! I just bit my tongue and tried not to burst into tears. Some days I'm up for that battle, but on this day I was not.

  4. I have hardly told anyone, because the response usually makes me feel a lot worse... My dad's respose was "Oh...You'll get pregnant."

  5. I am so happy to find your blog! I ad 25 and went off the pill in December to try to get pregnant. I started having hot flashes and did not have my period for 3 months. My first FSH was 99 and I was diagnosed with POF after a follicle count of 2. Since then my FSH has droped from 60s, to 5s, to 6.3 and the hot flashes have gone away. I have ever had 4 30 day cycles with a period. Just as my hupe was surging, my AMH came back 'undetectable' meaning I have an undetectable ovarian reserve. So my husband and I are planning to do one cycle of injectables and then start DE IVF. Thank you so much for writing about this! I cant wait to read the entire blog!

A friend's wife who had just given birth the month before said, "Well that suck, but you know what else sucks? Pregnancy!" I said "Well, it is one thing to be uncomfortable while you are pregnant and another thing entirely to be told it will never happen for you." She seemed to get the picture and I did not punch her.

    1. I'm glad you found me! It's always "nice" to connect with another POF person. I say "nice" but I really mean it sucks to be us.

How did you get your FSH to go down that far?!? Were you on HRT? An AMH of undetectable is pretty abysmal - how did you take that news?!? I'm guessing that probably makes the decision to go with DE IVF a bit easier.

I'm glad you said something to your friend's wife about her comment! Looking back on this post, I wish I had said something, if nothing else, to prevent additional comments that she made later!

I saw that you just started a blog, too - I'll sign up to follow you now!
