Okay, getting right down to it. I'm measuring 5 weeks, 6 days, which means that a) I conceived a good 3 1/2 weeks after the IUI or b) something is wrong.
We did see the yolk sac and, thank God, the heartbeat! Doc said he wanted the heart rate to be above 100 and it was 106, which seemed low to me. He said it was on the low side, but it's still early. I've been googling and read that the baby's heart rate starts out as the same as the mother's and my heart rate is always really low (b/c I am a runner, I think), so hopefully that explains it... My progesterone came back at 10.7 and he wanted to see it at 20, so I'm now taking crinone in the morning and night.
It was amazing to see the heartbeat. I was SO nervous, especially because I woke up this morning and my boobs felt 1000 times better. I still feel very nauseous and queasy, but I'm worried now that some of that is due to me being nervous and worried. I want these symptoms to stick around!!
I'm really freaked out about the timing. The doctor said I probably conceived 3 1/2 weeks ago (which would have been right around when I may have ovulated. I'm looking at my chart now and I would have ovulated on October 3 or 4th (CD 12 or 13)- I was in Mexico on the 3rd and didn't get home until SUPER late on the 4th. Ladies, please! Help me with this chart!
Do you see why I would guess I had not ovulated? Those temps are all over the place! I have a good shift from the 3rd to the 4th, but it goes right back down... I was in Mexico from Saturday the 29th through late Thursday night (the 4th). Is it possible I got pregnant from sex early on the 5th, a day after ovulation??
I know this is all over the place, so here's a timeline:
9/22: Start a light, easy period (from progesterone withdrawal or actual shedding of lining, I don't know)
9/26: Period is over
9/28: Sex with Champ
9/29: Mexico
9/30: Mexico
10/1: Mexico
10/2: Mexico
10/3: Mexico
10/4: Temperature shift up 8/10 of a degree. Still in Mexico, get home at like midnight. Champ is asleep, but I now remember that we did have quick sex in the middle of the night. Was that THE night?
10/24: Take a pregnancy test, get BFP, Beta at 34,000
10/26: Heart rate at 106 bpm, measuring 5 weeks 6 days
Oh my God. I'm praying so hard that it happened this way. Otherwise, we're talking about a 9 week old babe measuring way WAAAAY behind and that would not be good.
I go back in one week to see how things are moving forward. AGH, I would feel so much better if this had happened with the IUI and I'd already be done with these crucial weeks 6-8. I mean, I'm so thankful to have seen the heart rate today, but about 10x more freaked out about this timing because I really don't understand how it could have happened. Does anyone have a better handle on this than I do? Help!
First off, congrats again on seeing the heartbeat! I did not even see one that early (only yolk/sac)so that is great news. I am thinking you did ovulate on your own based on your chart. It may be possible that the traveling caused your temps to be off? I would imagine you were following a completely different sleeping/waking pattern? My RE always yelled at me when I tried to relate things regarding my temp to my cycle. They would always tell me that temps are very unreliable. I still temped anyways, though! :o) Hopefully your appointment next week will help connect all of the pieces together. Sending positive thoughts your way!!
ReplyDeleteI was definitely going to bed later and waking up later than normal on vacation, and of course, drinking a TON of alcohol and eating way more than normal. And spending a lot of time in the sun. So I'm hoping those things made a difference with the chart, although I think the wonkiest temps are after I got back from Mexico and was apparently already pregnant! Thanks for the positive thoughts! :)
DeleteWhat D said: travel can wreak havoc on temps. And so can indulging in alcohol, which is what one does while on vacation. :) It's been a while since I chart-stalked on Fertility Friend, but I seem to recall seeing several charts with wacky temps that resulted in pregnancy. I don't think it's outside the realm of possibility.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I think it's amazing that you saw the heartbeat. That's a very good thing! Hang on to that and try not to stress too much before the next ultrasound. (I know...easier said than done.)
Thanks for the reassurance. :) I've never hung out on Fertility Friend, but it might be time.
DeleteI am so happy you saw a heartbeat! And I'm agreeing with the above: your temps were wacko because of traveling and alcohol. Stay positive and try to keep from jumping from airplanes :)
ReplyDeleteMy non-scientific two cents is that you got pg due to sex on 5th. To me, it would be weird that you would have a heartbeat and measuring 5wks if you are supposed to be at 9wks. By then i would assume the baby would start to miscarry. And traveling always messes up temps - just be grateful you guys decided to do the quickie on the 5th and enjoy your heartbeat! And i know you said you would rather be past the first 6-8wks of worrying but think of it this way, now your baby was NOT exposed to MX water, drinking, skydiving, etc., which honestly is probably a good thing.
ReplyDeleteCongrats!
Hmmmm...very peculiar. But I would say it's very possible that you ovulated on your own and conceived from that...either from quickie sex on 10/4 or 10/5 OR Champ has some very hardy sperm that survived all those days after the 9/28 sex. Also, for what it's worth, I obsessively temp and I've had two pregnancies, both of which had temps all over the place (even without the traveling!). One of those pregnancies did not end well, but one did and so there is definitely still hope. I've also heard that an estrogen surge in early pregnancy can cause one's temp to drop to pre-ovulation levels for a day or so, so maybe that's an explanation.
ReplyDeleteAnd congrats on seeing a heartbeat! I hope your next u/s gives more answers and more hope. Thinking of you!
Yup you ovulated girl!! The meds from the IUI probably helped. Congratulations and since you saw the heartbeat already I wouldn't worry about it being a little low; usually you don't see it until 6-7 weeks. Seems to me the little one is doing great and ahead of schedule not behind!
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy for you!
PS I had my first beta today, but won't know until Monday. :(
Can't wait to hear about your beta! Wishing you the BEST of luck!
DeleteMy guess is you ovulated and conceived sometime around when the doctor estimates. At least for me any disruption to my normal routine changed my temps and made them impossible to interpret. It's part of the reason I gave up temping. (The other, bigger, part is that it was stressing me out!) Seeing a heartbeat is a huge step! Congratulations! Now, just try to breathe through the next week. Waiting is tough!
ReplyDeleteI totally see a thermal shift! I bet the luteal phase temps are a bit disparate due to the low progesterone levels. Congrats, friend!
ReplyDeleteI wish I had all kinds of comforting words and advice to offer, but I have hugs and best wishes! The presence of the heartbeat seems like a really, really good thing to me. I hope that the next appointment brings comfort!
ReplyDeleteYup... I bet it was the quickie too:) Funny, I think that's exactly how my hubs and I got our lucky break! That heartbeat sounds great for how far along your little one is now... Barely big enough to have a heartbeat at all. I know you said you'd have rather the IUI be responsible for the positive, but, remember, the alternative means you beat the odds yourself, without the help of science! THAT, to me, is worth some serious celebrating! (the nonalcoholic kind, of course;)
ReplyDeleteKeep breathing...
Your temps are bit up and down but I still see a shift in your chart - like your lowest post O temps are on the coverline, which as far as I know is normal.
ReplyDeleteThe heartbeat is a great sign! I don't think you'd see that if you were 9 weeks but measuring only 5...I think this baby was conceived from your nighttime quickies on 10/4 or 10/5 and is measuring spot on :) I hope you can enjoy this exciting time...I know infertility can make it hard to feel confident (I lived in anxiety for like 20 weeks, which makes me so sad!), but this is worth celebrating!
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking that midnight sleepy welcome home sex did the trick!! What a wonderful way to be conceived!! There is no way that you could have a 9 week old babe measuring 5 weeks with a heartbeat.
ReplyDeleteAll I can say is that sometimes we ovulate when we least expect it!! Congrats on the heartbeat :) I can't wait to follow your pregnancy!!!!! :)
Is it possible that your chart is just all wonky because of time change/travel? As hard as it is, try not to stress and just trust that your baby will continue to develop as it should. The heartbeat is a big positive.
ReplyDeleteThat is amazing to see a heartbeat that early! Congratulations! Praying for you that you did actually conceive after your trip to Mexico.
